Today marks the 12th anniversary of Elliot's passing and the 11th year since the charity supporting bereaved families in his name was created. In partnership with Child Bereavement UK we provide funds to employ a bereavement support worker, Nicola, who helps families from the first moment they need it after losing their child. To ensure Nicola's role continues we need to raise at least £17,500 annually in increasingly difficult times. To do so we have launched our latest fundraising campaign to ensure we can keep being there for families when they need us. We have several runners who are training towards running the Leeds or Manchester 10K races at the moment, if you'd like to run for us at any event you'd be very welcome too. Every penny we raise goes directly to fund our family bereavement role.
We are thankful to one mum who has recently been supported by Nicola and who was willing to share her experiences here to help show how vital Nicola's support is.
“We lost our gorgeous girl to SUDIC in April 24, our whole world totally fell apart. I cannot begin to explain how the support from Nicola is helping. I’m a person who has to be strong for everyone else and was (am) finding it increasingly difficult to be able to do this. I cannot show my feelings to the rest of my family. Nicola allows me with time with her (face to face) to organise my thoughts, gives me someone to talk openly with who doesn’t judge but also shows me it’s okay and usual to feel how I’m feeling. Nicola has also given me tools to understand the grieving process and to realise it’s okay to be like I am. I cannot thank you enough for listening. I cannot begin to try to put into words how vital Nicola’s role is in supporting me with losing our princess. She’s a wonderful lady who definitely knows how to support others and help them to rebuild their lives after suddenly losing their child."
